Reason Studios Announces Reason 14: Focus on Workflow and Spatial Processing
Reason Studios has officially unveiled the details for Reason 14, the latest major update to its long-standing Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). Set for release in May 2026, this version introduces a redesigned, track-centric workflow alongside a new flagship reverb device and several highly requested sequencer improvements.
DAW
1. The New Track Panel
The most significant workflow change in Reason 14 is the Track Panel. For the first time, a track’s signal chain, volume levels, and sends are accessible directly within the sequencer. This change allows users to manage their sound without toggling between the Rack and the Mixer. Users can also open specific devices from the panel to visualize signal splits or tweak parameters in place.
2. Sequencer Enhancements
The sequencer has undergone a major overhaul to improve organization and speed:
Track Folders: Users can now group tracks into folders, a feature designed to manage large sessions and maintain a clean arrangement.
Smarter Clips and Piano Roll: The editing interface has been refined for more intuitive MIDI manipulation.
MIDI Note Chase: This feature ensures that if playback starts in the middle of a long MIDI note, the note will still trigger correctly.
Automatic Tempo Detection: Reason 14 now automatically detects the tempo of imported audio files, aligning them with the project timeline.
3. RV-9 Reverb Station
Reason 14 introduces the RV-9 Reverb Station, the successor to the classic RV7000. This new device features nine distinct algorithms, ranging from traditional high-fidelity rooms to experimental soundscapes. Key algorithms include:
Spectral Reverb: For frequency-based resonance sculpting.
Granular Reverb: For creating fluttering, textured atmospheres.
Echoverb: A hybrid algorithm that smears delays into lush spaces.
4. Interface and Navigation
The DAW now defaults to Dark Mode across all windows, including the Sequencer and the Mixer. To complement the visual update, new navigation buttons have been added for the Track Panel, Edit Area, and Groove Mixer, streamlining movement across the various sections of the software.
5. Content Expansion
To support the new version, Reason Studios has included a substantial sound library update:
900+ New Drum Samples: High-quality hits for modern production.
50 New Europa Patches: Expanding the capabilities of the flagship wavetable synth.
20 New Impulse Responses: Specifically designed for the RV7000 and the new RV-9.
Availability and Upgrade Path
Reason 14 is scheduled for release in May 2026. Starting March 1, 2026, any purchase or upgrade to a Reason 13 license includes a free upgrade to version 14. Additionally, Reason+ subscribers will receive the update automatically upon release as part of their subscription.
